RPHC 2011 Seed Grant and Research Symposium

The Religion and Public Health Collaborative is internationally recognized for engaging scholars and practitioners in world religions and public health in the pursuit of the public's well-being, by confronting the converging and conflicting perspectives and practices of religions and health through teaching and research.

The RPHC Seed Grant and Research Symposium is an annual opportunity for researchers, scholars, and students at Emory University to showcase their research in this important and burgeoning field.

Topic Matter:

You are invited to submit a poster abstract for research you are doing or have done in the field of religion and health.Research abstracts should be on topics related to religion or spirituality and public/population health of communities as a whole, or specific subgroups. A few examples of relevant topic areas might include:

  • The role of religious group(s) in providing safe water in low-resource communities

  • The influence of religion on reproductive health decision-making in specific populations

  • Collaborations of faith-based and public health institutions for health education and screening

  • The role of clergy in counseling parishioners on end-of-life issues

  • The impact of spirituality on quality of life and well-being in vulnerable populations

Abstracts are limited to 250 words. All proposals must list the principal investigator(s), as well as other key authors. At least one author must be affiliated with Emory.

Format:

All presentations will be poster style, with at least one author in attendance.

General Poster Information/Guidelines:

  • Each proposal will be peer-reviewed by the Poster Review Committee.

  • Submission of an abstract implies a commitment of at least one author to be in attendance at the symposium.

  • Abstracts must be submitted by February 15, 2011. All authors will be notified via email of abstract status by February 18, 2011. Please make sure your email address is correct.

  • The poster should be no larger than 3' x 4'. Each poster will be displayed on an easel.

  • Presenters will be responsible for printing their poster. We recommend the GA Tech Craft Center for inexpensive, high-quality posters (http://www.studentcenter.gatech.edu/crafts/Pages/default.aspx)
